Reefer Madness!

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

The Kaleidoscope Theatre is currently in the middle of auditions for Reefer Madness, which will be the first show of the 2008/2009 season. Although I’m available to the director as emergency-cast in case he can’t get people he likes, it looks more and more like I will, in fact, be serving as Sound Tech (in addition to my role as Sound Designer)... This is good. :)

You can easily find information about Reefer Madness, but in brief: It was originally a propaganda film (please note that I am neutral here about whether that’s good or bad – but the film is unmistakably propaganda) released in the 1936 about the perils of marijuana use.

Here’s an image of the original film’s title screen:

You can find more information about the original film here.

The film was parodied and made into a musical, for which you can find information here. It was also made into a movie; as always, with some changes. The original theatrical production has been updated over time, as the original was reportedly a bit boring.

You can find the unofficial discussion board here, where you can join in on discussion about this upcoming performance.

This show will run on Aug 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31 at the Kaleidoscope Theatre. You can find the official website of the theatre here, and the official homepage of the show here.
